Friday 13th December marks Upton's annual Christmas Fair. As is tradition, the children have organised themselves into groups to plan and run their own stalls.
A few reminders:
• Wear Christmas jumpers/something festive on Friday 13th December in return for bringing in a donation for the raffle or tombola prizes. • Children can walk around the Fair during the afternoon.
• Home time will be 3.00pm as usual. Children will be dismissed from their classrooms at this time.
• Entry/Exit to the Fair will be via the office only. Children are not permitted to leave early.
English
This week, the children wrote a persuasive speech to decide whether Liam would be allowed to escort the children to space or not. On Wednesday, the children wrote space narratives! They chose characters, settings and whether it was a space success or a disaster! Next week, the children will be writing diary entries from space. They will write in role as one of the children onboard the rocket, focusing on thoughts and feelings using emotive language.
Maths
This week, the children have been learning about area and perimeter. They have learnt how to find the area and perimeter of rectangles and rectilinear shapes. Next week, the children will be learning how to estimate area of non-rectilinear shapes and completing their end of unit assessment.
Thematic
This week, the children learnt about the moon. They ate oreos to aid their learning of the moon phases! Once they learnt about the phases, they made a comic strip to inform their peers using black card and white chalk. Next week, the children will finish their learning about space and complete their end of unit assessment. They will revisit the big question and jot down all their learning!
Art Competition
In this term's art competition, you will get the chance to create your own Pop Art Masterpiece inspired by our artist of the term: Roy Lichtenstein!
Using Lichtenstein's style as a guide, create a work of art that uses bright colours, bold outlines, and Ben-Day dots to show an exciting scene or object from your daily life. This could be a favourite toy, a scene at school, anything that is personal to you.
The competition starts from Monday 11th November and closes Friday 20th December. Please bring all entries to Mr Mason’s art room and be sure to include your name and class on your artwork. Winners will be announced at the beginning of term 3. Good luck!

Homework
- Please read with your child at least 3 times a week.
- All children have been given a ZPD to help them identify the correct books for their reading level. Once your child has read their book, they will need to complete a quiz on it before getting a new one. These quizzes can be done either in school or at home on Accelerated Reader using the log-in codes found in their reading records.
